Children/Developmental stages of Children

Behavioural disorders in children.
All young children can be naughty, defiant and impulsive from time to time, which is perfectly normal. However, some children have extremely difficult and challenging behaviours that are outside the norm for their age. The most common disruptive behaviour disorders include oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), conduct disorder (CD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). These three behavioural disorders share some common symptoms, so diagnosis can be difficult and time consuming. A child or adolescent may have two or even all three disorders at the same time. Other exacerbating factors can include emotional problems, mood disorders, family difficulties and substance abuse.

Toilet Training for Toddlers - (Parenting SA)
Learning to use the toilet is one of the big new steps for toddlers and it is really hard. Some children just seem to train themselves when they are ready, but most seem to need some help from their parents. Parents see toilet training as an important milestone for their children and often become very concerned if it doesn't all go smoothly.

Conduct Disorder in Children and Adolescents
Most parents report having some conduct related problems with children at some time or another. However, the "conduct disorder" label may only be warranted if those behaviours are persistent and impinge on the basic rights of others, if major age-appropriate societal norms are violated, or if there is significant impairment in everyday functioning at home or school. This paper examines in detail the diagnostic criteria of conduct disorder, the course and causes of the disorder and considers some appropriate treatment approaches.

Toilet training - staying dry at night. (Better Health Channel)
Toilet training - staying dry at night A child usually masters daytime toileting many years before they can keep their bed dry at night. Don't be concerned if your toddler wets the bed, because most children under the age of five years still urinate in their sleep, and one in 10 younger primary school children do too. Don't assume that your child can keep their bed dry because they can manage their toileting when they're awake. It might help if you think of staying dry at night as completely separate to daytime toilet use.

Information on Stealing
Many parents are very worried about stealing. Sometimes children steal because they haven't yet learned that taking other people's things is wrong (after all adults take children's things all the time), some children steal because they are upset or worried about something. Helping children who steal means understanding why it is happening, as well as knowing some ways to help them learn to be honest.
